Old digs uncovered at new digs

Parks Canada officials are investigating why a series of five houses in the same lot were abandoned after a developer bought them.

One house that went out of commission last year, on a plot that once housed the Ottawa Golf and Country Club, was found by Parks Canada to be in need of repair. The other nine had been left to rot and rot, Parks Canada officials said.

In all, four of these nine houses, built over an 18-year period, were put up for sale. A third, sold as a second home by a developer in 2009 and a fourth by a realtor in 2011, ended up becoming a rental home, along with two bungalow units on the grounds of their owner.

According to property records, the owner of the bungalow, a man who moved out of his Ottawa home two weeks ago, purchased them three years ago for $1,000 each. The man recently called and put the bungalow on the market for $1,900 each.

As of Dec. 4, the property values had reached a point where they were just under $800,000.

Two of the bungalow units were listed at $650,000; the one-bedroom unit was listed at $700,000; and the two bungalow units each cost $1,000,000.

The property listed for sale is called the Bona Vista Condos. That would be the condominium, with four units, at 1223 West Hastings Street, between Hastings and Wellington avenues East.

According to a listing on property transfer website RealestateAgent.com, the property was bought for $1,000 per unit by the man who just sold his bungalow unit. The property was bought by two companies who then offered it for sale, one of whom was called Bona Vista.

Property transfers are the process of transferring property from one owner to another. One company, in this case, is calling itself Bona Vista Condos.

All of the sales at these bungalow lots are from the late 1990s. The lots were listed for sale last year for $3,750 a unit, after being worth much less than that when they were put up.

On Friday, a Parks Canada officer visited the houses to investigate. No one answered the door and the person who answered the door was not answering anyone else's calls.

A Parks Canada representative said the agency does not comment on individual property or individual transactions until an investigation has completed.

Coltman favourite to contest ballarat for liberals

Paddy Manning has said he would vote for a Liberal candidate in the federal election due this year if she were to win the election for the Queensland seat of Gonski.

Manning, who has played for the New England Patriots and the St Patrick's Day All Ireland club in Ireland, is a former National Rugby League player for the St Patrick's Day club.

He had a good relationship with Malcolm Turnbull when the prime minister was a state and federal MP.

His statement on Facebook said: "I hope I'll vote Liberal in the next Federal Election as I have enjoyed my time with Malcolm Turnbull and the NSW Liberals in both New South Wales and Queensland.

"I have served NSW as the New South Wales National Rugby League president since 1998 and was a member of the NSW Rugby League board between 2005 and 2015."

Turnbull told ABC News Breakfast that Manning was "one of the best young, bright faces in rugby league" and that he had never met Manning before the pair worked together as team captains.

'Not the first time he's chosen his side'

Turnbull added: "Paddy Manning is an outstanding coach who has won everything he has ever set his mind to, and there is no doubt about that. If he's there, he would be the ideal candidate for Queensland because he has won everything he has ever set his mind to.

"Paddy has a track record of winning things on his own. To me, he's definitely an alternative to the current Federal Government and the Turnbull Government.

"If Paddy Manning had run last time he would have been a different kind of candidate, not a current Liberal candidate, and he could have easily won and he would have won. I have worked with him on many projects, including NSW and Queensland.

"Malcolm Turnbull has to get that government, the Nationals, back, they are just so weak in Queensland and they have not even done anything to help Queenslanders.

"Paddy Manning is not a Liberal candidate in the next Federal Election. He is someone who wants to do his own thing, which is different to Turnbull, but that's his right as well."

Greens leader Christine Milne said Manning's announcement came in response to Turnbull's criticism of Labor's proposed carbon tax at a rally in Brisbane.

She said she was disappointed by the prime minister's comments but the Greens were committed to supporting the carbon tax because it was a progressive scheme, which was the policy of the previous Labor government and could do some good.

"I think he is trying to make us look foolish by putting us in such an extremely difficult situation," Milne said.

"At the moment we believe th
